# [Usage](../../../usage.md) > [Components and standard attributes](../basics.md) > hintOverlay

---
`hintOverlay` | `->setHintOverlay()`

It works as the [hint](hint.md) but is applicable to [schema](schema.md) elements, will place the [popup-message](../../utilities/frontend/simple_popup.md) over all the schema element.

| Types    | Default |
|----------|---------|
| `string` | `null`  |

Schema-level variant of `hint`: places a popup message over the whole `schema` element (group, repeater block, tab) rather than a single field. Used when help applies to a group. When omitted (`null`) no overlay shows.
See `hint` for single-field help.

### Example
Blade:
```php
{!! \KFramework\Components\Forms\Form::make()->setSchema([\KFramework\Components\Forms\Input::make()->setName('vat')])->setHintOverlay('VAT block: fill only for companies') !!}
```
Controller:
```php
Card::make()->setSchema([Input::make('vat'), Input::make('company')])->setHintOverlay('Company billing block');
```

### Interaction / tips
- Use `hint` (../shared_attributes/hint.md) for field help, `hintOverlay` here for group help.
- Applies to elements inside `schema` (../shared_attributes/schema.md); not for standalone inputs.
- Keep overlay text short so it does not cover the group on hover.
